I Didn't Know That

.

Mount Rushmore, South Dakota
One of America's foremost national monuments

Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Lincoln; four of our greatest presidents!  How inspiring!  Authorized by Congress in 1925,
their sculptures took more than fourteen years to complete.

Located in the renowned Black Hills of S. Dakota, Mt. Rushmore
was listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1966. It seems impossible but the entire project cost under 1 million dollars.

No wait, don't go just yet. There's still quite a bit more of Mount Rushmore to see. You definitely won't want to miss this part...

Of course you'd have to use the Hubble space telescope to see from Canada all the way down into the great state of South Dakota.

However, since this shot easily qualifies as the new* number 1 on the list of most shocking moons in recorded history, as far as The Editor is concerned that's quite beside the point.

* The old #1 being the legendary pressed-ham on the bus window moon seen in the motion picture Slap Shot...

Dear Readers:  My good friend J. Pequodius Throckmorton has unraveled the mystery behind the cryptic notation "Canadian view" under the shot of The Fathers' posteriors. See the brilliant analysis in his comment to "I Didn't Know That" (below).

  1. I have it on good authority that the night before the dedication of the monument The Fathers all enjoyed several large servings of The Editor's infamous Texas Jailhouse Chili in celebration of the project's completion.

This proved to have earth-shaking results as prior to this now-famous dinner South Dakota happened to be located north of North Dakota.

It also explains the puzzling caption of "Canadian view" under the photo taken from the north side of the mountain.
